Lidwien van de Wijngaert, a senior researcher at the Faculty of Behavioural, Management, and Social Sciences (BMS)  will spend one day per week at the Stochastic Operations Research (SOR) group at the faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science. Her 3-months appointment, starting in April 2015,  has been made possible by the Tech4people exchange grant from the faculty BMS.

Lidwien will use the exchange period to gain knowledge of available network algorithms. Together with SOR researcher Nelly Litvak they will apply these mathematical techniques to social media data from the public sector (e.g. the Facebookpage of Frans Timmermans or the @mention network of tweets related to a local police officer). The two researchers aim to obtain insight into the motivations of e.g. central people and target groups by confronting the results from the mathematical analysis of social networks with the results from on-line surveys.
