Red weather warning due to extreme heat: measures on campus

The KNMI has issued a red weather warning for tomorrow due to the expected extreme heat. The University of Twente is therefore taking several precautionary measures. We ask everyone to follow the KNMI's advice and take good care of themselves and those around them.

Exams will go ahead

All scheduled exams will take place as planned, the same goes for other education activities. A small number exams may be relocated. Please check communications from your study programme for any updates regarding your exam location or changes in activities before coming to campus.

Only travel if necessary

Please follow the advice to travel only if necessary. If you are unable to come to campus because of the conditions, discuss this with your supervisor. Students who are unable to come to campus may contact their study programme.

Buildings remain open, but reduced cooling in some buildings

All buildings will remain open. However, due to the exceptionally high demand for cooling during the extreme heat, the available cooling capacity will be temporarily redistributed. To ensure sufficient cooling for temperature-sensitive research activities in laboratories and exam locations, cooling will be reduced from Thursday evening onwards in Zilverling, Ravelijn, Oosthorst, and part of Waaier.

As a result, these buildings may be warmer than usual. While indoor temperatures are expected to rise, they are still expected to remain well below the outdoor temperature.

If you are looking for a cooler place to work or study, you are welcome to use the buildings where full air conditioning remains available.

Outdoor events are cancelled

Scheduled activities and events taking place outdoors will not go ahead. Organisers will inform participants accordingly.

Take care of yourself and others

Drink plenty of water, seek cooler areas where possible, and avoid strenuous physical activity during the hottest part of the day. Please also keep an eye on colleagues and students who may be affected by the heat.
