Lecture halls Waaier 1 and Waaier 2 have been closed with immediate effect. During the night, several pieces of material fell from the ceiling. At that time, no one was present in the building.
When the incident was discovered in the morning, the halls were taken out of use straight away. Scheduled teaching activities have been relocated to other venues. Following an initial inspection of both lecture halls and the possible cause, the other rooms in the building were also checked. No risks or defects were identified there.
Several weeks
Repair works on the ceilings in Waaier 1 and 2 will start next week. These are expected to take approximately five weeks, although a precise timeline cannot yet be provided. As soon as more information is available, we will communicate this via the website and service portal, and directly to users.
Relocation of activities
Planned activities for the coming period are being moved to alternative locations. Users will be informed by the Booking Office and the timetabling team.
Rescheduling these activities is a complex puzzle, as many activities are involved. This may also affect users of other rooms; if so, they will be informed accordingly.
Sports Hall 2
Last week, we reported the temporary closure of Sports Hall 2 in the Sports Centre, also due to ceiling-related issues. Repair works there have already started. However, there is no connection between the two situations.
