Climate change, the reduction of CO₂ emissions, more efficient energy storage and fewer or ideally no animals needed for testing medication: just a few examples of societal challenges. At MESA+, we address these challenges and work on innovative and sustainable solutions based on our fascination for nanotechnology. With our research, we contribute to a fair, sustainable and digital society.

Our research focuses on societal challenges in four application areas: Health, AgriFood & Water, Energy & Sustainability and Security.

Our application areas

Health

Nanotechnology enables us to screen individuals for diseases such as cancer, using just a minimal amount of body fluids. And thanks to our organ-on-chip research, it is now possible to test medication on a chip. This means that animal testing is no longer needed. Read more about our research in Health.

Energy & Sustainability

Countries across the world have set themselves the goal of combatting climate change. Therefore, a lot of research is being done on energy and sustainability. Scientists at MESA+ are researching these things at the nanoscale in order to answer questions such as ‘How can we ensure a sustainable energy supply in the future?’ and ‘How can we reduce CO2 emissions?
