Introduction

At IDS we specialize in integrated devices: think transistors, diodes, and transducers. We invent and improve (micro)fabrication processes and acquire fundamental understanding of underlying device physics. We demonstrate these on a variety of devices using the Nanolab fabrication facility, and develop the science of working principles and design, with the aim to transfer this knowledge to industry. We consider systems aspects in all stages of the device research, and create prototype systems where essential to show proof of principle of the devices.

Our research spans from materials via process integration and device physics to device reliability. Examples of these four are: deposition and characterization of few-nm thin metal films; ultra-low-noise accelerometers for the detection of gravitation waves; transistors and capacitors employing the negative-capacitance effect; and self-healing in CMOS transistors.
