Micro Sensors and Systems

Note

The Micro Sensors and Systems and the Semiconductor Components group have been merged in 2017 into the Integrated Devices and Systems group. From 1-1-2018 the corresponding specialisations:

  • Micro Sensors and Systems and
  • Devices for Integrated Circuits

will be merged as well into the specialisation Integrated Devices and Systems.

This means that from now on no students can enter the specialisation Micro Sensors and Systems anymore.

For current students the following transitional measures have been taken:

  • Students, who already have started their master’s thesis research before 1-1-2018, keep their old specialisation.
  • Students who start their master’s thesis after 1-1-2018, will be transferred to the new specialisation. When you check the compulsory courses of the new specialisation you can see that your old course list satisfies the requirements of the new specialisation.
    • Your programme mentor will be dr. Cora Salm (see below). If you would like to discuss your courses with her, don’t hesitate to contact her. If necessary a dedicated solution for you will be created.

Introduction

At MSS we specialize in transducers, we invent (micro-) fabrication processes and acquire fundamental understanding of underlying device physics. We demonstrate these on a variety of devices and develop the science of working principles and design, with the aim to transfer this knowledge to industry. We study biomimetic approaches to pave the road to new, well performing, robust and energy-efficient tranducers, next to cutting-edge MEMS-sensors and exploit nonlinear, parametric and stochastic phenomena to obtain extraordinary functionalities. We consider systems aspects and implement these where essential to show proof of principle of the devices.
