Report: workshop Educational Spaces for ITC staff

On Monday 2 March 2020, a workshop regarding educational spaces was organised for ITC staff. Together with VDNDP and Studio Groen+Schild, the ITC delegation was guided by Marc Hulshof from C&FM to the TechMed Centre and the Carré building.

There we had a look at several educational spaces. The smallest rooms we visited were suitable for 25 students, and the largest one could hold 180 students. At the TechMed Centre we saw very new education spaces with the latest technology in education facilities compared to the Carré building, where facilities were similar to ITC currently. We noticed that different classroom set-ups were mostly made due to building constraints (lay-out of the building, pillars, etc.). It also became clear, as many rooms we visited appeared small, that the education spaces for the new ITC building are designed with more space per student in mind than is common for the shared education facilities of the campus. This design choice was made to accommodate the variety of project work ITC students do.

After this short tour, we sat down in one of the educational spaces to discuss the various worries we picked-up along the way of the tour, with regard to lighting, classroom set-up, necessary facilities, flexibility of the educational spaces, usage of these spaces (only lecturing or also group/project work), etc. A very interesting afternoon where the staff present got, and gave a good impression of what they need and want and, equally important, also what they do not want in the educational spaces of the new ITC building.
