Update Housing Developments of New ITC Building on Campus

In December last year we started the European tender to select a design-team. We expect to make a selection for parties to attend the next phase in this tender. The design-team will consists of architects, engineers and advisors that will be involved with the design of the new ITC building.

The actual design process of the new ITC building on the campus will start after the summer of this year. In order to provide the architect with more detailed information about the ITC organization, the coming six months are used to develop a workplace strategy. An external expert in this area is drs. Titia van den Berg. She will support us as ITC organization to develop a workplace strategy. She has 20 years of experience in workplace consultancy in both profit a non- profit organizations. Amongst her clients are research company such as Shell Research, RIVM but also The University of Amsterdam and Erasmus MC.

Titia van den Berg will engage you as ITC colleagues through a number of research activities to truly understand the working culture and its impact on current space use. She will relate the outcome of these research activities to the functional square meters of the programme of requirements of our new building. The new situation makes is feasible to develop all kinds of workplaces concepts, varying from the existing concept in the current building to more innovative ideas. We would like to give you real influence on the outcome of this process. Invitations to participate in this process will be send by the management of the faculty soon.

The next 6 months our focus will be on the following steps:

  • Explore: investigate the identity and drivers of the end users through interviews to find common ground to start the process of workplace strategy and design.
  • Define and understand: to get a better and more profound insight in the working process and learning process the different types of user profiles are being investigated in workshops and additional interviews.
  • Concept development: in this step the information of the previous steps is used to start thinking conceptually about the working and learning environment and to develop different options for the working and learning environment.
  • Implement: to be able to implement the conceptual ideas into an actual design requires a good collaboration with the architect. In this phase ITC can participate in the design process and influence the actual outcome.
