Preference for housing ITC in Langezijds

On Monday, 4 February, the Executive Board expressed a preference for housing the ITC faculty in the existing Langezijds building (also called Gallery phase 2).

In October last year, it became clear that the original idea to locate ITC on the current Citadel site was financially unfeasible.
In the meantime, three alternative housing scenarios have been examined and an urban development analysis has been carried out for the locations on campus. This concerns the following scenarios:
• Renovation of Langezijds (Gallery phase 2)
• New construction within the O&O area on the campus (the 'Es')
• Renovation of current location ITC on the Hengelosestraat

All three scenarios have been assessed equally to arrive at a pure comparison of costs and criteria. Therefore, the corresponding starting points were used, such as the LTSH (long-term strategic housing plan) as a framework, urban planning appropriateness, ITC’s programme of requirements and the financial frameworks of the LTSH.

The Faculty Board of the ITC, as well as the parties involved in the LTSH, gave a positive advice on the preferred scenario to house ITC in the Langezijds. It has many advantages.
An important advantage is the direct location on the O&O square, which meets the desire to integrate the ITC on campus.
Another advantage concern the estimated costs. The preferred scenario is financially the most advantageous and also fits within the current project budget of the LTSH’s financial framework.
The ITC gets an excellent location on campus and is clearly visible and well accessible (also with public transport) from the Hengelosestraat.
Lastly, the building can also be flexibly deployed in the future if the circumstances, such as student numbers, change at the UT.
It is expected that the ITC will be able to move to the new location at the beginning of 2022.

At the beginning of March 2019, the Board first discusses the preferred scenario in terms of content within the LTSH framework with the Supervisory Board and with the University Council.

More information about the follow-up process will follow at a later stage
