University College Twente experiments with interior of Citadel building

Leading up to a final housing for the University College Twente, UCT starts a pilot with the interior of the current building Citadel. Last week, the experiment started by the demolition of some walls in the building. UCT students designed the furniture and accessories together with Industrial Design student Jil Hötte.

The idea is to find out if the collaboration between students and staff members can be influenced positively by working spaces and project rooms, if a new design of ‘community spaces’ has been applied. With the redesign of the building, UCT also wants to test whether this has an effect on the accessibility and image of University College Twente.

Due to the plans to extention of the period of the Long-Term Housing Strategy (LTSH) from 2021 to 2023, the Citadel building will be demolished in 2019 and reconstructed for Faculty ITC. By then, the current residents of Citadel will relocate, as will the University College. In the coming period it will be decided what place on the campus is the best location for the final houding of the College, considering all elements of the Long-term Housing Strategy. The UCT uses this period in an experimental way for their learning community, to use the positive aspects also in the final accommodation.

Check the designs of the students here online and be welcome to visit us after 12 January 2018.
