Renovation of floors in Spiegel building

After the summer of 2018, LISA (Library, ICT, Services and Archive) customer services and several other LISA divisions currently based in the Citadel building will be relocating to the Spiegel building. This is in preparation for the demolition of the Citadel building in 2019 and the new construction work for the arrival on campus of the Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC).

In order to prepare the Spiegel building for the arrival of all of the LISA divisions, the renovation of all floors in the building is being addressed. In addition to LISA, FEZ (Financial and Economic Management) and S&B (Strategy & Policy) have also expressed a desire to have their own floors renovated.
Therefore, the Facility Service Centre and Beltman Architecten developed a renovation plan for four floors of the Spiegel building and the addition of LISA customer services on the ground floor in the lecture room wing.

Several years ago, when the HR area was transformed into an open office garden, new materials and a totally different layout succeeded in creating an open working environment. In designing the renovation of the other floors, Beltman Architecten continued along similar lines. The renovation is intended to achieve an open working experience, without creating an office garden. The UT flex concept is being applied to several larger rooms. Beltman Architecten aims to achieve this as sustainably as possible, with maximum re-use of materials.

VISUAL IMPRESSION: SUSTAINABLE AND NATURAL MATERIALS
A visual impression with reference images and maps shows which materials are planned to be used for the renovation of the floors of the Spiegel building. The layout and structure of the existing offices and corridors will remain intact. The existing pipe ducts, instrumental in setting the architectural tone of the building, will be covered in a wood finish with slats, in order to create a natural look and feel. Existing doors will be replaced by glass doors to create an open and transparent working environment. Carpeting patterns in the corridors and offices will run throughout, emphasizing the sense of an open look and feel. Existing window frames will be painted black, in line with the look and feel of floor 5 where HR is based and the ground floor where Marketing & Communication has its offices (previously renovated). For the renovation, Beltman Architecten applies sustainable and natural materials as far as possible, in order to give everything a natural and warm atmosphere.
