Faculty Club Foundation moving towards new Upark Hotel in Hogekamp building

On Monday the 25th of September, the Executive Board decided to relocate the current restaurant facilities in the ‘Boerderij' building towards the new UPark Hotel, which will open in autumn 2018.

In the Long Term Housing Strategy the UT aims to ensure that its campus not only provides fertile ground for new breakthroughs in the fields of education and research, but also that it is an exciting and inspiring place where students, staff and visitors can come together. Given the values and priorities of the UT, it is important that the buildings and facilities on campus stimulate the fusion of working and of meeting.

A high-level quality restaurant on the campus for receiving internal and external guests and employees fits this ambition. The unique location of the UParkhotel in the Hogekamp, as a connecting element between the Boulevard and the O&O Plein, as well as the open and accessible character of the Hogekamp building and its square with a terrace included, have led to this decision of the Board. Currently, such a restaurant facility is accommodated in the 'Boerderij' building. This restaurant is of great value for the academic community of our university and has to be preserved in terms of quality and appearance for the UT. The restaurant will settle in the UParkhotel in the autumn of 2018 and will  get its own [...] distinctive and contemporary character over there. The UT staff of the restaurant will move along to the new hotel.

In addition, the Faculty Club Foundation and the management of the Upark Hotel are discussing the possibilities of settling the Foundation in the UPark Hotel as well, as of next year. It is expected that this will soon result into a cooperation between the two parties.

For the re-allocation of the ‘Boerderij’ building, the Executive Board will take the time to explore various options within the framework of the Long Term Strategic Housing Plan.
