UTServicesLISALaptop project

Laptop project 2026-2027

At the start of each academic year, new laptops for students are selected and sold while supplies last: a standard model and a Workstation model.

Each year, UT students can purchase a laptop through the UT Student Laptop Project. We carefully select two models at competitive prices, ensuring they meet the performance requirements of your studies. All essential software is guaranteed to run smoothly on these devices. The purchasing process is arranged through our partner Computacenter, but technical support during your studies is available from the Service Desk ICT on campus.

The webshop will be available soon.

Why order a LAPTOP via UT?

Ordering a laptop through UT gives you many benefits, such as excellent support from the Service Desk ICT. For example, if your device encounters a problem, you can receive a working model within one hour.

Low price and high quality

To keep competition sharp and prices low, we ask all A-brand manufacturers to present their offers every year. This offer is exclusively for UT students (direct resale is not permitted).

The quality of a laptop is very important. Robustness and durability are important characteristics we value. Laptops are often tested according to military requirements.

Performance and software

The laptops offered are tested by the Service Desk ICT, with a focus on calculation capacity, graphics performance, memory and storage, and overall performance.

The offered devices are equipped with the latest wireless technology to meet the campus network requirements. Of course, it must contain enough memory, storage, etc.

Software

You can rely on the laptop to perform well with all the software (combinations) you need for your studies. It can run many software packages at the same time. Many of those software installations need their own specific licenses. The Service Desk ICT puts a lot of effort into making “images” and installation software for the selected devices. Such an image or software package can be installed on the laptop quickly without requiring the removal of personal data. This is also a very important reason for acquiring a laptop selected by UT.

Download software

As a UT student, you can download software (packages) via the Software Manager of the Service Desk ICT. Even if you have not purchased a laptop through UT, you can download software there.

Note: Microsoft Office 365 is not available through the Software Manager; you can download it through the Office Portal using your UT email address. Questions? Visit the page with the FAQ on Microsoft Office 365.

The software packages are made available specifically for education (based on your login credentials). Per package we provided information for which Operating System the package is suitable.

Service and clean installation

The Service Desk ICT is open on working days from Monday to Friday, between 08.30 and 17.00 hours and is located in the Citadel building. Students who encounter problems with their devices are welcome here, and we will take a look at the problem (Best effort) and hopefully come up with a suitable solution.

If your device has a hardware-related issue and it was not bought through our laptop project, we can still give you a good recommendation on which steps to take to get the problem solved. However, if your laptop is bought through our laptop project and is still under warranty and is encountering a hardware-related problem, we will take care of the repair for you.

OUTSTANDING services

Students who bought a device through our laptop project and encounter (hardware) problems can visit the Service Desk ICT (in the Citadel building) to find a solution.

If the device is still under warranty. We will contact the supplier and arrange a repair for you. In case your laptop has been dropped or suffered liquid damage, and you also purchased insurance during the order process, we can also make sure the device gets repaired.

If you did not buy this insurance, we cannot accept your device due to the costs involved in the repair. In that case, you need to file a repair request with the manufacturer, and you are then responsible for completing the repair yourself.

Clean installation

You can also get a new, clean installation at the Service Desk ICT if you bought a device through the UT laptop project. Such an installation will take about five minutes. If you want to use this service, make sure you have made a backup because the disk will be erased.

Three-year warranty

You benefit from a three-year manufacturer's warranty. It covers defects that are not caused by external circumstances. During the ordering process, you can choose to purchase manufacturer insurance to cover damage from falls and liquids.

If your problem is not covered by the three-year warranty or your insurance, you will have to pay the repair costs yourself. The Laptop project is always willing to investigate your issue and help to solve it.

Should you choose to stop studying at the University of Twente, you will not lose your warranty and possible insurance, as these will be handled by the manufacturer.

NOTE: By buying a laptop from the laptop project, you agree not to resell the laptop you have purchased.
The webshop will be available soon.

Interest-free loan

As a UT student, you have the option of an interest-free loan for the purchase of a laptop via the Service Desk ICT through Computacenter. With the interest-free loan, the University of Twente (UT) advances up to € 2.000.00 for your laptop. You repay the loan monthly. The term of repayment depends on the number of credits you still have to obtain.

Example: when you start with a two-year master's, you have to repay the borrowed money to the University within 24 months.

To be eligible for the loan, you must meet the following conditions: you are already enrolled at UT, and your application has been processed by the Central Student Administration.

In short, you first apply for an interest-free loan. Once approved, the advance is paid into your bank account, and you can then use that money to purchase a laptop from the order website.

How do you apply for the loan?

For current and upcoming students

Fill out the two documents listed below. You can email them together with the order confirmation for your laptop and a copy of your bank card or a statement from your bank account.

Addition for current students

Are you already studying at UT, have you already accumulated study points, and would you like to order a laptop via an interest-free loan? Then also fill out one of the forms below.

Submit documents

Make sure you fill out all the requested information. Incorrect or incomplete answers to questions will not be processed and will be returned to you. Once we have checked the particulars, we will transfer the loan to your bank account within ten business days. Payment of the laptop supplier's invoice is your responsibility.

Preferably, send the documents as PDF files via e-mail to: general-ledger@utwente.nl

How can I arrange payment for the laptop (iDeal/Wero, Creditcard)

You can pay for your new laptop and possible options and accessories via an iDeal/Wero payment or a credit card.

You can also pay by taking out an interest-free loan. To be eligible for a loan, you need to meet several conditions and fill out some documents.

If you wish to pay by loan, you should choose the option: bank transfer during the ordering process. The order confirmation that you receive automatically after placing the order can be used to apply for an interest-free loan.

Can I cancel my order?

Please contact Computacenter. You can reach them from Monday till Friday from 08.30 till 17.00 on telephone number: +31 88 435 8233

Can I change my order?

Please contact Computacenter. You can reach them from Monday till Friday from 08.30 till 17.00 on telephone number: +31 88 435 8233

Can I customise the laptop? (more memory, bigger SSD, etc.?)

It is not possible to change the default configuration during the ordering process. The offered setup is fixed and cannot be modified at the time of purchase.

However, you can order additional accessories separately via the order portal. The ICT Service Desk can assist you in installing these components into your laptop. Please note that this website is only available when the laptop project is active.

Please note:

If you choose to upgrade a component that requires replacing existing parts — for example, swapping the standard 2×16GB (dual-channel) memory for 2×32GB (dual-channel) — the original parts (2×16GB) cannot be refunded. You may, however, choose to resell them yourself.

Important technical note:

The 1TB NVMe drive only fits in the secondary slot of the High-end model.

The laptops come with dual-channel memory by default. If upgrading to 32GB modules, you’ll need to install 2×32GB (dual-channel) modules — a single 32GB module will not change anything about the default configuration besides cancelling out the benefits of using dual-channel.

Important note: The standard model supports up to 32 GB of dual-channel memory. It is not possible to upgrade this by replacing the built-in 2×16 GB modules with 2×32 GB. The upgrade option described above applies only to the high-end model.

Can I get extra insurance on my laptop?

The ADP (accidental damage protection) is offered as an option on the ordering portal. It's useful to mention that it is highly recommended.

Click on the logo above for more info.

Can I order the laptop with a different keyboard layout (e.g. AZERTY)?

Unfortunately this is not possible. We only offer the QWERTY version as shown on the website.

Can I pay in monthly instalments?

This is only possible when using the interest-free loan offered by the UT to students.

More information about this can be found here.

Can I sell the laptop after purchasing it?

Because of the special price and excellent support, it's not allowed to resell the laptop.

I need to log in to order. What kind of account do I need?

Only active University of Twente students can order through the website using their e-mail address and password as authentication.

If you have trouble reaching your account, please click here for more information and support.

To which countries can the laptop be delivered?
  • Belgium
  • Germany
  • Luxemburg
  • Netherlands
  • Spain

Transportation costs are €2.50 (incl. VAT). For Spain €35.00 (incl. VAT).
What does the term "AI" in the standard laptop mean?

HP and other manufacturers use the term "AI PC" not only for systems with an NPU, but also for PCs that:

  • Support AI features via software (such as Windows Copilot, Studio Effects, etc.).
  • Can perform AI tasks in the cloud, with support from the CPU and GPU.
  • Are prepared for future AI integrations, even if they don't yet have an NPU.

The "standard" model does not have a NPU implemented (AMD Ryzen 5 220), the "high-end" model does have a dedicated NPU (Intel® Core Ultra 7 255H processor, with up to 13 TOPS NPU)

Can anyone order these laptops?

No, only students at the University of Twente with a valid student account can order these laptops.
