Configure e-mail in Thunderbird

INTRODUCTION

It is possible to send and receive emails with the aid of Thunderbird. It is also possible to share calendars and to load your work mail in Thunderbird.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN:

  • This manual is not applicable for students.
  • This manual uses a consistent style of writing: references to text and buttons on screens are printed in italics, information that you have to enter yourself is printed in bold.

HOW TO SET EMAIL IN THUNDERBIRD

Step 1: Download and install Thunderbird

Download and install Thunderbird from: www.mozilla.org/nl/thunderbird.

Step 2: create a new account

  • Create a new account.

Step 3: Use your existing mail address

  • Click Dit overslaan en mijn bestaande e-mailadres gebruiken.

Step 4: Mail account set up

  • Fill in your information.
  • Click Doorgaan.

Step 5: Manual configuration

  • Click Handmatige config

Step 6: Filling in data manually

Following Inkomend:

  • Choose IMAP.
  • Fill in for server host name xs.utwente.nl.
  • Choose port 993.
  • Choose SSL/TLS.
  • Choose Normaal wachtwoord.

Following Uitgaand:

  • Choose SMTP.
  • Fill in for server host name: smtps.utwente.nl.
  • Choose port 465.
  • Choose SSL/TLS.
  • Choose Normaal wachtwoord.

Following Gebruikersnaam

For your own mailbox:

  • Fill in GoghV

For a functional mailbox:

  • Fill in AD\GoghV\{maiboxalias}. The mailbox alias is often the part of the mail address before @utwente.nl.
  • Click Klaar.

Your mail account is now successfully configured in Thunderbird.
