INTRODUCTION

This manual shows how to import your student account in the Microsoft Outlook 2016 e-mail client. It is assumed that you already have Microsoft Outlook 2016 installed on your computer. The steps are the same for Outlook 2010 and 2013, however the screens may differ a little.

Before you start

This manual uses a consistent style of writing: references to text and buttons on screens are printed in italics, information that you have to enter yourself is printed in bold.

STEP 1: START OUTLOOK

If you haven’t used Outlook before, you will be asked to connect to an account upon the first start. Outlook might suggest your Office 365 username here – if that is the case, choose Connect to a different account at the right bottom of the window.

STEP 2: SET UP YOUR MAIL ACCOUNT (GETTING STARTED)

After starting Outlook, you will be presented with this screen. Choose Next to start the configuration process.

Outlook will then ask you if you want to connect to an e-mail account. Choose Yes and click Next.

You will be asked to enter your e-mail account and credentials so Outlook can automatically find the settings for your account. This does not work with student mail accounts, so we will have configure this ourselves. Choose Manual setup or additional server types, and click Next.

You will now have to choose the account type. Choose POP or IMAP and click Next.

STEP 3: SET UP YOUR MAIL ACCOUNT (ENTERING YOUR CREDENTIALS)

In this screen, enter the following credentials:

Your name:

Your full name

E-mail address:

Your student mail address

Account Type:

Incoming mail server:

imap.gmail.com

Outgoing mail server (SMTP):

User Name:

Your student mail address

Password:

Generate an application specific password (see manual) and enter it into this field

After entering these details, click the More Settings … box in the bottom right corner.

Click the Outgoing Server tab, and choose My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication and Use same settings as my incoming mail server.

Click the Advanced tab and enter the following details:

Incoming server (IMAP):

993

IMAP type:

SSL

Outgoing server (SMTP):

587

SMTP type:

STARTTLS

Click OK to save the information you entered. Click Next in the Add Account dialog.

Outlook will now test the credentials you entered. After this has completed, you can click Close. Your student mail is now set up in Outlook.
