8. Participate in relevant external networks

As Programme Director, you are the formal representative of the programme not only within UT but also outside UT. Depending on the programme, this could mean that you have to participate in one or more external networks, relevant for higher education in your discipline. Which networks are relevant and how you can and should participate differs per programme; you can ask your predecessor for advice on this.

Active contribution to relevant external networks

When you participate in external network(s), you are expected to actively contribute to their work. That way, you can influence what is going on and make it more relevant for (the content of) your programme, or you can limit the possible negative effects. The role you take and the contribution you make in these external networks is up to you.

For some programmes it might be part of your role as Programme Director to participate in external networks. For example, the Programme Director of the Master Science Education has to participate in the national network of teacher educators.

Translate relevant information from an external network into actions for the programme

External networks can have an effect on your programme. Sometimes these networks can take a binding decision that you have to incorporate in your programme, and in other situations it can be an advice or suggestion which you find useful for your programme.

In both cases it is your task as Programme Director to translate the general decision or advice to the specific situation of your programme, taking the UT context into account. Make sure you also discuss these external decisions and advice with the relevant internal bodies (e.g. Programme Committee, Examination Board etc).
