A new competency framework for flexible academic curricula enhancing professional identity formation and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Abstract – How do we develop and teach academic curricula that deliver lifelong learning professionals who can engage our societal challenges? How do we provide the content-flexibility required for self-directed learning while maintaining the value of our diplomas? At the same time: How to keep control over the operational workload and efficiency of our programs?
n this workshop, you will be introduced into the role of competency frameworks in educational design and professional development: what makes these frameworks functional and when do they fail? Especially, you will get acquainted with the FIRIS-P competency framework for academic professions and the FIRIS-P profile for Biomedical Engineers, developed and being implemented at the UT.
In hands-on exercises, you can experience how to formulate a FIRIS-P profile for an educational program or for yourself as a professional role model to your students. You can also discover how a FIRIS-P profile facilitates the mapping of course contributions to program goals, based on key concepts from the professional body of knowledge and skills.
