Academic Writing: Editing your Text

Result

Do you want to take your English-language academic writing to the next level by learning tips and tricks for editing your own academic writing? In this workshop you will practice editing real texts (including your own).

You will leave this course with an improved version of your own text, and knowledge of how to replicate manual and AI-assisted editing techniques outside the classroom, making this stage of the writing process less stressful.

Content

In advance, you submit your own writing to the teacher, so that the content can be tailored to the needs of the group

First, we look at the principles of editing and how to edit manually, using your own writing as practice.

Then, we look at how these prinicples can be tranfered to critical and responsible use of Large Language Models (ChatGPT) to support editing tasks. If your AI policy does not allow use of AI for editing, you can use an example text in this part of the workshop.

Duration and time investment

One workshop of two hours with +/- 20 minutes preparation (submit some of your own writing).

Language

The language of instruction is English, and the course content is suitable for editing English-language texts.
