In this course, participants will acquire a basic knowledge of Dutch, leading them to CEF-level A1. Participants receive a certificate after 80% attendance and if the course portfolio is evaluated positively.
The course consists of two lessons per week: a preparation lesson and a practice lesson. In the preparation lesson, you use the course’s online learning platform to listen to dialogues, practise and learn grammar, do exercises and learn the vocabulary, together with your classmates and under the guidance of a teaching assistant.

You will be evaluated based on a portfolio, which you have to complete by the end of the course. The portfolio consists of listening and reading tests, writing assignments, a practical speaking exercise outside of class and a spoken exam in the final lesson. If the result is satisfactory, you will be able to enrol in the A2 course.
Attendance at every lesson is essential. The course consists of 20 lessons of two hours each, with two sessions every week: one preparation lesson and one practice lesson. Homework is expected to take approximately two hours per week, in addition to the preparation lesson.
Admission is granted based on certificates obtained from earlier language courses, in this case, Introduction to Dutch.
If you want to participate in a Dutch A1 course in Q2, you have to complete Introduction to Dutch first and afterwards you can register for a Dutch A1 course. Please note that we cannot guarantee that there will be free spots at that moment. If you register for an A1 course, before you complete Introduction to Dutch, your registration will be cancelled. It is not possible to get your administration fee refunded or to transfer it to register for a later A1 course.
