Carolina Schiesari, former visiting Scientist at ITC/UT, presents research on Agroforestry Public Policies at the 8th European Agroforestry Conference (EURAF 2026)

Carolina Schiesari (ESALQ/USP) presented the paper "Agroforestry Systems as Public Policy Tools: Evidence from Rural Settlements in São Paulo State, Brazil" at the 8th European Agroforestry Conference (EURAF 2026). The research was developed in collaboration with Andre da Silva Mano during her time as a Visiting Scientist at the Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC), University of Twente. The study evaluates the environmental and socio-economic impacts of the Sustainable Rural Development Project (PDRS) in agrarian reform settlements in São Paulo State, Brazil, by combining remote sensing analyses with interviews conducted with farmers.

The presentation was part of the session "S2.1 – Farmer Friendly Agroforestry Policies II", held on 25 June 2026 from 2:00 to 3:45 p.m., which brought together researchers from several countries to discuss public policies promoting agroforestry and the challenges associated with their implementation. The Brazilian study was presented alongside research on agroforestry policies in England, the Czech Republic, Ireland, and France, contributing to the international discussion on environmental governance, land-use change, and family farming.
