How do I apply?
Please read the following information about the steps in the application procedure carefully:
1 Please read the course information carefully.
2 Please check our cancellation policy
3 Check if you comply with the admission requirements.
4 Log in to our registration page.
5 Fill out the registration completely in your personal online registration page.
6 The page will lead you automatically to a page on which you can pay.
7 Payment can be done by Visa/Mastercard credit cards, PayPal, iDEAL, Giropay, ING HomePay, Belfius, KBC, CBC and SOFORT, Tunz.
8 Do not close the window before the payment is confirmed. Only confirmed payment is proof of successful application. You will receive an e-mail with the confirmation of payment.
Do I need to take an English-language test?
No, we do not ask that. However, we expect you to have a good command of the English language (IELTS 5.5, B1/B2, TOEFL 70 internet based test or equivalent) so you can follow the lectures, write papers and participate actively in the discussions. It is, however, not mandatory.
Until when can I apply for a course?
The application deadline is on the 1st of August, 2017. However, we encourage students to apply as early as possible as some courses may fill up before the application deadline.
I have applied for a course, when will I receive more information?
After you have applied for a course you will receive a confirmation of application and practical information.
What happens if the course I want to take is cancelled?
InspireU reserves the right to cancel the course. Participants should keep this in mind when making travel arrangements; any expenses made other than course and housing fees, will not be reimbursed.
If a course you are enrolled in needs to be cancelled, you will be notified by our office and given the opportunity to enroll in a different course or we can reimburse the fee.
I have been accepted for a course, what should I do now?
As soon as you have been accepted for a course, you will receive an email with practical information. Placement will be based on the order of payment (first-come first-served). Your placement in the course is only definite, after we have registered your payment.
I want to register as a group, is that possible?
If you want to register as a group (5-10), request the group tickets via the contact form on our website. We will contact you to arrange the tickets.
Do I need a laptop?
Yes, we advise you to bring along a laptop. We have free wifi as well as lockers for your laptop.
How many contact hours does the course consist of?
Each course will exist of 27 hours full course. This includes a briefing, guided tour and courses and the think thank.
Where can I find the course programme?
Once the course programme is known, it will be placed on the website under 'courses'.
When will the courses start?
Courses will start on 13 August. We still expect you to arrive on the 12th of August or by 10.00 AM on the 13th
Can I participate in two courses?
No. There will be a certain amount of overlap between the courses though. A keynote speaker talking about the influence of nanotechnology on healthcare is an example of such overlap. Also during the think thank you will work on a assigment were insights from all courses come together.
Can I change courses?
Yes you can, if the course isn't full already. This can be done with the personal link in your registration email.
Can we participate as a group in different courses?
Yes you can. You get let us know which courses the group members want to participate in.
When can I move in my accommodation?
You can move in on 12 August.
Will all students attending the same course be housed together?
No, you are not housed by course attendance. Tents are separated by gender.
My friend is also attending the summer school, can we stay at the same tent?
Yes, most of the times that is possible. Please send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org if you wish to arrange this.
When do I have to leave my tent?
You are expected to leave your tent on the 17th of August.
Will I have power in my tent?
No. We will have mobile charging points, though.
How many sanitary facilities are there?
There's one facility for the festival/tent area, which includes multiple toilets. We also have showers you can use.
How much does it cost to register for InspireU?
The participation fees are listed on our information page.
Can I get a refund if I have to cancel?
Costs will be owed in the event of cancellation or if the participant interrupts the course or ends it prematurely. Please consult our terms and conditions for the detailed cancellation policy.
Can I use someone else's credit card to make the payment?
Yes, that is possible.
When can I check in/out?
You can check in on the 12th of August between 10:00 and 20:00 and on the 13th of August between 07:00 and 10.00. You can check out on the 17th of August between 8:00 and 11:00. If you are not available to check in/out at said times, please contact us at email@example.com
What's the easiest way to reach the university from the airport?
You can take the train from Schiphol Airport to Hengelo station. On 13 August, there will be (free) buses riding from Hengelo station to InspireU from 10 AM until 6 PM. If you wish to arrive later, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
What if I have to leave a day earlier?
This is possible, but please let us know this when you check in!
Do I need to buy tickets to join social activities?
No, social activities are included in the fee.
Are there separate social programmes for each course?
No, but you can choose which of the social activities you want to participate in.
DURING YOUR STAY AT Inspire-U
I would like to see a doctor, how can I arrange that?
The General Practitioner administers first line, primary care. Patients can not consult a hospital specialist without a required referral. Please note that international patients are required to pay in cash. After you have paid the bill, you can send it to your insurance company to be reimbursed. There is a GP on campus.
Where can I go with questions during the summer camp?
During InspireU there will be several crew members on campus who will be recognizable by their clothing. We also have an information desk on campus at all time during the summer camp week.
Can I charge my phone and laptop in my tent?
It's not possible to have electricity in your tent. We do have free mobile charging points on the festival terrain. Next to this, we also have lockers with charging opportunities.
Am I allowed to go outside the festival terrain?
No, you are not allowed to leave the festival terrain without crew member or course leader.
Will my belongings be safe?
We offer lockers, which you can use for free.
What if I have special dietary needs?

ABOUT THE NETHERLANDS
Are all summer school students international?
No. We aim for a fifty-fifty distribution between international and dutch students. InspireU is open to anyone, so there will be Dutch students as well.
What language do people in the Netherlands speak?
People in the Netherlands speak Dutch. There are also some recognized provincial languages and regional dialects. Most Dutch people can speak and understand English quite well.
What is the weather like in the Netherlands?
The Netherlands has four seasons: winter (January - March), spring (April - June), summer (July – September) and autumn (October - December). The weather in summer can be pleasant, sunny and warm, i.e. 20-28 degrees Celsius. However, nothing is less predictable than the Dutch weather, so it is very likely that we will have colder, cloudy and rainy days during the summer as well. Therefore you are well advised to not only bring summer clothes, but also something a little warmer and for example a raincoat.
What is the currency in the Netherlands?
The currency in the Netherlands is the euro.
How many people live in the Netherlands?
The Netherlands is a small country, but many people live there. With over 16 million inhabitants it is one of the most densely populated countries of the world.
Where can I find more information about the Dutch education system?
More information about the Dutch education system and studying in the Netherlands can be found on the website of Nuffic (Netherlands organization for international cooperation in higher education).
What are the voltage requirements in the Netherlands?
Voltage: 230 V; Plug types C & F. You might need a voltage converter and plug adapter.
How can I pay for things in the Netherlands?
Payments by cash or Maestro debit cards are very common in the Netherlands. Credit cards and Visa debit cards are far less common and you will not be able to pay with them everywhere.
BEFORE YOU LEAVE
What is the nearest airport to Enschede?
If you come by plane, usually you fly into Schiphol, the largest airport in the Netherlands, close to Amsterdam. There is an intercity train from Schiphol that goes straight to Enschede Central Station. The trip from Schiphol to Enschede takes about two hours. When you arrive at the train station in Enschede, take bus line 1 to 'Wesselerbrink - Universiteit Twente' or bus line 9 to 'Hengelo'. Bus line 1 stops at several bus stops on the campus. Bus line 9 stops at the entrance of the campus (bus stop 'Kennispark/UT'). (Second option: Switch trains in Hengelo and travel further with a regional train to station Enschede Drienerlo. This station is located at walking distance of the University of Twente main entrance (about 1 km).
Take a train to Hengelo, Enschede or Enschede Drienerlo. After that, follow the bus instructions below. NS train journey planner
From the A1 motorway, take the A35 motorway towards Enschede. Then take exit no.26 Enschede-West/Universiteit. Follow the signs Universiteit. If you use a navigation system, navigate to Drienerlolaan 5 in Enschede, Netherlands.
When can I arrive at the campus?
You can arrive on the 12th of August between 12.00-20.00 pm. If you arrive on a different time, please let us know by e-mail.
Do I need to speak Dutch?
No, it is not necessary for you to speak Dutch.
Do I need insurance?
InspireU does not provide any insurance for students. Please make sure that you have your own travel insurance when you arrive the Netherlands. You should take out a travel insurance which covers medical costs, liability, accidents and expatriation to your home country in case of emergencies. If you need a doctor while being in the Netherlands you first have to pay the bill, that you can send to your insurance company afterwards to be reimbursed.
What should I bring with me?
Keep the Dutch weather in mind. You will need clothing for six days, money for drinks in the evening, travel documents, laptop.
Do I need a visa?
Most students will not need a visa to the Netherlands since the course runs for less than three months. However, it is the candidate’s responsibility to look into this matter independently.
International students should be aware that participation in the summer camp does not constitute the basis for securing a student visa.
You can find on the Dutch government website whether your nationality requires a visa.
Will I get a refund if I won't get a visa?
In case you don't get a visa you can cancel your application. Our regular cancellation policy takes effect, therefore have a careful look at our cancellation policy.
