Explanation compensation rules bachelor IBA 1st year for cohort 2016

Explanation of Compensation rule in 1st year bachelor International Business Administration 2016/2017

Remarks:

  • Only at the end of the first academic year of study the rules will be applied!!
  • A maximum of two out of 17 grades can be compensated in case criteria are fulfilled. One of the criteria is that per category (3 categories: Theory, Research Methodology, Project) only one grade (or subgrade) can be compensated and in all cases the (sub)grade to be compensated need to be between 4.5 and 5.5!
  • Realize that the compensation rule will not help you in case (business) skills in FAIS or HOLI has no “pass”!
  • This is an explanatory document. The formal rule is part of the “ Teaching and Examination Regulations, BMS Bachelor’s programmes 2016-2017” (article 5c on page 12 of Programme-specific appendix IBA)

Regulations for compensational pass of first year IBA modules

There are 17 module components that will be numerically graded and registered in OSIRIS

  • 9 theory module components
  • 4 research methodology module components
  • 4 project module components

A student has a compensational pass and successfully finish his/her first year if the results for the 17 module components in the first year IBA modules (at the end of 2016-2017) satisfy:

  • For all 4 modules the weighted average module exam grade is at least 5.5;

AND

  • The weighted average grades of each of the three module component categories (the 9 theory module components, the 4 research methodology and the 4 project module components) is at least 5.5;

AND

  • At most two of the 17 module components registered in OSIRIS and belonging to different categories are graded either between 4.5 and 5.5 OR with NVD. (The 3 categories are : theory /research methodology/project) : These are the module components to be compensated!.

AND one of the next two criteria is satisfied for the module components to be compensated:

  1. Both module components to be compensated are graded between 4.5 and 5.5.
  2. For module components to be compensated and graded NVD at most one of the results of its subtests is below its required minimum and above 4.5.

The formulas for calculating average grades of module component categories are:

  • Theory module components:

(6 * test grade Organization Studies) + (9 * test grade Business Operation Management) + (3 * test grade Finance) + (3 * test grade Accounting) + (3 * test grade Information systems) + (2,25 * test grade Human Resource Management) + (2,25 * test grade Organizational Behavior) + (2,25 * test grade Information management) + (2,25 * test grade Business Law)/ 33.

  • Research Methodology components:

(3 * test grade Methods & Techniques) + (1,5 * test grade Probability) + (3 * test grade M&T: Statistics) + (1,5 * test grade Research Methodology) / 9.

  • Project module components:

(6 * Project grade TOP) + (4,5 * Project grade BOM: group work) + (3 * Project grade FAIS) + (4,5 * Project grade HOLI) / 18.
