Guidelines special leave from 28 April

There are several situations for which we have drawn up specific guide lines:  

1. In case you

  • Have one or more children of the age up to and including 12 years old, and
  • Are limited in the capacity to work from home, or limited in spreading working hours, and
  • Cannot arrange daycare

If the above applies to your situation, you can make use of a leave allowance for the period up to and including May 19. For this, you can use special leave (100 percent of the size of your appointment). Your salary will be paid in full throughout this period. Coordinate the leave with your supervisor and register the leave period within the request-module.  

2. In case you

Have an ill partner or child at home, requiring you to go into home quarantine and take care of your ill family members.  You do not have any obligation to perform work throughout this period. You can make use of a leave allowance up to and including May 19. For the first two weeks you can take a short-term care leave. If after two weeks your family member’s illness still requires your care, you can take long-term care leave. Your salary will be paid in full throughout this period. Coordinate the leave with your supervisor and register the leave period within the request-module.

3. Some parents or caretakes will be able to make use of childcare options at their own school or daycare, if they fall under the so-called category of crucial professions. This applies for university staff that is involved in distance learning (also applicable to support staff, not excluded to scientific staff). If a family has one parent/caregiver with a crucial profession, the request is to look after the child(ren) themselves when possible. If this is not possible, an appeal can be made for daycare.

4. Situations may arise that differ from the above. In that case you should discuss the possibilities with your manager. He or she will make a decision in spirit of the arrangement above.
