FFNT Conference

The 7th FFNT conference on ‘Gender in Academic Leadership: challenges and perspectives’ took place on Thursday April 19, from 9.00 till 17.00 at the University of Twente. The conference was opened by the Chair of the FFNT, Dr. Liudvika Leisyte. The welcome address was given by the President of the University of Twente, Dr. Anne Flierman. The conference morning programme featured four outstanding key-note speakers:


Prof. Rosemary Deem (Vice-Principal, Royal Holloway, University of London, UK),

Prof. Janka Stoker (University of Groningen, Member of the UT Supervisory Board),

Prof. Simone Buitendijk (Vice-Rector, Leiden University),

Prof. Curt Rice (Vice-Rector, University of Tromso, Norway)


After lunch the discussion café opened the floor for the participants to debate the issues regarding academic leadership, success factors in academic career advancement, and the issues of performance and diversity at universities. The conference ended with a panel discussion moderated by Prof. Saharso, the member of the FFNT Board. The panel discussion led to a set of policy recommendations for the university managers and leaders how to promote excellence and diversity in their respective organizations.
