by Julie Bytheway

on Tuesday 17 May from 16.00 till 17.00 hrs.

The language we use reflects the ethos of our society. Research shows that language is important for our empowerment although it may work differently for men and women.

This lecture explains why gender-neutral language is important, raises awareness of spoken and written sexist language, and gives clear guidelines of how to practise gender-neutral language.

Julie Bytheway designs curricula, courses and assessments, and teaches language learning processes, teaching methods and English. She currently has a variety of roles at Saxion Hogescholen, Hogeschool Edith Stein, and Montessori College Twente. Julie has several postgraduate qualifications in the learning and teaching of English as a second language. She is passionate about high-quality language learning experiences, learner-centred learning, and gender equality. Her research interests include autonomous learning, language learning strategies, vocabulary development, and language learning using web technologies.
