Our first Diversity Week starts on 4 October! Do, think and connect during events and workshops

From 4 till 8 October UT will fully dedicate itself to the topics of diversity, equity and inclusion. On Tuesday 5 October the Netherlands will be celebrating National Diversity Day. On this day companies and institutions are encouraged to organise activities to create awareness about diversity and inclusion and to contribute to your well-being. UT will also be actively participating by organising activities for and with employees and students on this day – and throughout the week. You are cordially invited to join!

Diversity is a fact, inclusion is an act

Diversity is essential. Not only at universities, but always and everywhere. It is the need to properly represent our society as a whole. Feeling seen, heard and valued is just as essential. It is therefore logical that these are fundamental principles on which Shaping2030 has anchored its messaging. But feeling at home somewhere doesn’t always happen automatically. In order to do so – during your study or your work life – you need to be able to authentically be yourself. In order to do so, you need to be able to have access to and take opportunities. Opportunities to develop yourself fully and to have the space to stand for what you believe in and be able to wholeheartedly express what you do and do not like. To feel that you belong, you need to be allowed to make strong lasting connections. You need to see and hear each other and want to listen to one another with an open mind and without any (unconscious) biases.

Activities that raise awareness, deepen and connect

With all the offered activities during this first edition of the Diversity Week at UT, the focus is fully on raising awareness. To really see ourselves. To listen to one another with open minds and honest hearts. To create realistic expectations. To make meaningful and lasting connections. We will for instance be opening our first all gender toilet. Our one and only Theatre Association NEST will be performing a piece on Tuesday evening to highlight the importance of all gender toilets for any company or organisation. And on Friday we encourage you to join our webinar with Annah Keige-Huge whereby we openly encourage a brave and safe space to look at why it is so difficult for us as people to talk about racism.
