We provide continuous learning pathways (Bachelor’s, Master’s, postgraduate) in each of these areas and offer students ample opportunity to contribute to their own training, development and learning experiences. We have therefore embraced blended learning, the combination of e-learning and personal education on campus as a community for academic and personal development.
At the University of Twente we strive to maintain an inclusive and positive learning and living environment in an international context. We recognize that studying abroad is a great opportunity for personal development and intercultural exchange. To promote these values we organize activities and offer services for our international students to help make Enschede their home away from home. Currently, we have over 2,500 interantional students from 80 different nationalities.
Academic bachelor's programmes at a research university last three years. Most people with a Bachelor of Science degree opt to continue their studies for one or two more years in order to become more proficient. They then become a Master of Science. The University of Twente strives to support students to finish their Bachelor's programme successfully within 4 years. In 2016, over 73 per cent of all Bachelor students achieved this.
In 2013, the University of Twente launched the Twente Educational Model for undergraduate education, a radically new educational model to meet the needs of today’s students, who are accustomed to new, rapid methods of learning, interacting and cooperating.
It offers a modular approach, stimulates students’ independent acquisition of knowledge and gives them more scope to pursue their interests. In this way, the Twente Educational Model places more emphasis on a profound and conceptual understanding of the heart of a discipline or domain, which is more important than factual knowledge of every single aspect of a given domain. The intensive study and regular feedback require a high level of student engagement. Training in collaborative work and presentation skills takes place ‘on the fly’. For instance, Electrical Engineering students at the end of their first year take part in a competition in which groups of students try to build the best-performing broadcast antenna.
To prepare for this challenge, they are offered some modules on the mathematics and physics involved. It is up to them, however, to acquire the specific information they need to build the antenna, within a fixed budget.

At the University of Twente, students get the chance to come up with their own personal challenge and make dreams come true. Various student teams have been working fulltime in a project team during a full college year to work towards a goal. At this moment for instance, the Solar Team Twente is preparing their solar car to compete in the World Solar Challenge in Australia. Also, teams like RoboTeam Twente (robot football), Green Team Twente (hydroelectric car) and Solar Boat Twente are active.

University College Twente
In 2013, the University of Twente launched a truly unique university college: University College Twente (ATLAS, Academy of Technology and Liberal Arts & Sciences). It targets talented individuals who refuse to accept inferior solutions to complex issues – ambitious students who want to broaden their skills so they can handle a high level of complexity.
Twente Graduate School (TGS)
Twente Graduate School coordinates high-quality educational programmes based on topics closely related to the work of the university’s research institutes, taught and supervised by expert researchers. We offer structured PhD programmes for outstanding graduate students who are keen to pursue a career in scientific research. Next to the PhD research project leading to a dissertation, the equivalent of 30 European Credits in a broad variety of discipline related, academic skills and career development courses enable students to specialize in their research area they are interested in while broadening their perspective on the societal context of technology and research. www.utwente.nl/tgs

Professional doctorate in Engineering
The University of Twente offers Professional Doctorate in Engineering (PDEng) programmes in Civil Engineering, Energy & Process Technology, Healthcare Logistics, Maintenance and Robotics. PDEng trainees follow a two-year post-Master’s technological designer programme, where they learn how to design high level, creative and innovative solutions for complex issues with a multidisciplinary character. Consisting of an educational component at the university and a period of practical design work in industry, the programme combines academic research in an industrial context with taught modules in a range of related subjects. Professional Learning & Development
The University of Twente offers educational modules and full programmes for managers and professionals in areas such as Public Administration, Risk Management and Sustainable Innovation. In the past and-a-half-year, the University of Twente has initiated four Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC’s): Ultrasound imaging for the medical practice (TG), Supply chain innovation (BMS), eHealth (BMS), GeoHealth (ITC). Over 20,000 participants have registered for these MOOC's, getting introduced to the University of Twente. Of the 15,000 registered participants of Ultrasound and Supply Chain Innovation, 5,000 have actually started the online course and 800 have completed their MOOC course.
Top rated programme
In the latest edition of the Keuzegids, a Dutch publication on the quality of university programmes, three bachelor programmes of the University of Twente have been awarded the ‘Top rated programme’ seal. Applied Physics (82 points), Chemical Engineering (78) and University College Twente (ATLAS, 78) all received a score of 76 points or higher, the score needed for receiving the ‘Top rated programme’ (Topopleiding in Dutch) seal. Five master’s programmes have been granted the seal “Top rated programme”: Applied Physics, Chemical Engineering, Geo-information Science and Earth Observation, Sustainable Energy Technology and Technical Medicine. For Applied Physics and Geo-information Science and Earth Observation, this is an extension of the status of “Top rated programme”.
