From film clichés to original new cinema lecture

Car chases, a hero grazing a bullet: with an action film, you know roughly what to expect. With a romantic film, the clichés are usually obvious too: when will they get together? The stories are diverse, but often follow the same pattern. Are there new, original storytellers who avoid the clichés? Who film more like life itself: more casually and unexpectedly... Film scholar Gerlinda Heywegen identifies a trend, one that makes you feel more relaxed and perhaps even happier at the cinema. But first, she revels in those delightful clichés. And there's the kiss!

On Tuesday 19 May, Concordia will be showing the film The Quiet Girl, which fits perfectly with this SG.
