Movie Night in Vrijhof Theatre
Woody Allen’s Annie Hall, winner of four Academy Awards, is a tragicomedy about the doomed relationship between comedian Alvy Singer (Allen) and Annie Hall (Diane Keaton). While Annie immerses herself in New York’s glamorous social scene, Alvy wrestles with his neuroses and obsessions, sparking a bittersweet reflection on love and its inevitable failures. Through witty dialogue, inventive stylistic choices – including animation, breaking the fourth wall, and candid asides – Allen blends humor with melancholy to create an intimate character study. The result is a brilliant and moving portrait of romantic pain that redefined the romantic comedy genre.

Nice to know
Diane Keaton made her breakthrough in 1972 when she appeared as Kay Adams in The Godfather. Annie Hall is the best-known film she made with Woody Allen. He wrote the film especially for her and the character is largely based on her; Hall was her real surname. The film is therefore often seen as an autobiographical portrait of their relationship. Diane passed away on 11 October 2025.
The film evenings are organised in collaboration with Concordia and offer a film experience you won't want to miss.
