New residential areas, data centres and large companies all require a lot of power sockets. Demand for electricity and grid capacity is rising rapidly, whilst the infrastructure is lagging behind and energy supply is becoming increasingly unpredictable. Dr. Gerwin Hoogsteen (UT, EEMCS) is investigating how supply and demand can be balanced. Do smart grids and regional energy networks offer a solution?
