UT/4TU Alumni Network Paris Event

Get ready for the year's first 4TU Alumni Network event on Wednesday March 20th from 17:30 till 20:00 at the Embassy of the Netherlands in Paris!

This special gathering puts a spotlight on four innovative Paris based alumni researchers from exciting emerging sectors related to culivated meat, space exploration, precision (gene) medicine and quantum computing. During a panel discussion Gulibusitan Abulizi (alumna UT), Wahid Awad (alumnus WUR), Remy Kusters (alumnus TU/e) & Mireia Leon (alumna TU Delft) will share details about their current work as well as ambitions for the future - for a preview check out the profiles below!

Also joining us are the founders of 10 startups linked to our universities – these young entrepreneurs are in Paris for the ‘Hello Tomorrow’ Global Summit and are excited to talk with local alumni about their companies during the event. (Further details about them appear at the bottom of this page)

My name is Gulibusitan Abulizi (Gülbostan Abliz). I am a Nanofabrication Lead at C12 Quantum Electronics based in Paris. I am passionate about the advancement of nanotechnology. I enjoy fabricating spin-qubit based quantum devices using cleanroom facilities to contribute to the hardware development of the quantum computing. Following my graduation from the University of Twente in 2013 with a master’s degree in nanotechnology, I pursed a PhD degree in experimental physics at the University of Basel in Switzerland and a postdoc afterwards.

Wahid Awad studied and worked in 11 countries including the Netherlands as he completed his master in Biotechnology at Wageningen University. Dr. Awad has a PhD in Genetics from Colorado State University, USA and an executive MBA from ESCP Business School.

Before founding Rosetta Omics, a Paris-based Biotech startup unlocking the road to precision medicine in cancer, he used to serve as the Chief Business Officer for a french/american pharma company (Cilcare) and an assistant professor at Cairo University.

Remy Kusters earned his BSc/MSc degrees in Applied Physics from TU Eindhoven in 2012 and completed his PhD in theoretical biophysics at the same institution in 2016. Following his PhD, he relocated to Paris to take up a postdoctoral research position at the Institut Curie. In 2018, he was awarded a fellowship that allowed him to lead a new research team at the intersection of physics and machine learning at the Center for Interdisciplinary Research of the University of Paris. He further pursued this area of research at IBM Research, where he served as a research staff member. In 2022, Remy joined the cultivated meat startup Gourmey, where he oversees the research and development department.

I am Mireia Leon, an aerospace engineer passionate about space exploration. I completed my Master’s degree specializing in space flight at TU Delft in 2022. After this experience, I am continuing my formation as a PhD student at the Paris Observatory, working on surface analysis of Mercury in preparation for the BepiColombo mission. I stay involved with TU Delft through the work done on my MSc thesis on predicting the probability of collision between spacecraft and space debris. The start-up Ecosmic is currently in the process of commercializing this work in the space sector. Hopefully, this will contribute to keeping a clean and safe environment for the growing population of satellites orbiting the Earth.

Attend this gathering to meet fellow alumni from Twente as well as TU Delft, TU Eindhoven and Wageningen University. With over 1000 '4TU' graduates living in the Paris region, we are sure to have a great cross selection of participants from different companies, sectors and roles! You will also hear updates from your alma mater and special activities during the event will maximize your networking opportunities.

The 4TU Alumni Network of the University of Twente, TU Delft, TU Eindhoven & Wageningen University launched its activities in 2014 and currently has communities in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, the Nordics, Spain, Switzerland and the USA. By bringing our alumni together we hope to create valuable communities for them. Members are encouraged to use these communities for sharing both achievements and information as well as tapping into the expertise of each other.

4TU alumni work across a wide range of sectors, and are affiliated not only with the most prestigious organisations of their fields but in many cases also self-funded start-ups. Some of them may have only recently completed their studies in the Netherlands while others have already lived in one of these countries for a decade or more. This network, therefore, represents a significant source of skills, contacts, and advice.
