DesignLab Lecture | Vanessa in Singapore Sharing ambitions

What if you had the chance to realise your ambitions on the other side of the world? And in your new position, how do you succeed in bringing your vision and experiences to the table in a different culture? Or will you start all over? In the upcoming edition of DesignLab's online lectures, UT Professor and DesignLab’s co-founder Vanessa Evers will share her story: why she moved to Singapore, how she has become the director of the NTU Institute of Science and Technology for Humanity (NISTH) and what she believes is important for the future of DesignLab.

Ambitionsand DesignLab

Six years after its launch, DesignLab has evolved into a collaborative platform for creative changemakers, firmly rooted across theUniversity of Twente ecosystem. DesignLab connects scientific, technological and creative insights, and works on impactful solutions for societal challenges by bringing together researchers, government, students, entrepreneurs and citizens.

Being one of the founders of DesignLab, Vanessa’s ambition is to secure and carry out large-scale global research projects. In last year’s interview, she stated: “One way for me to set up auseful international network for the DesignLab is to do so from the outside -from the inside, it’s very difficult. I hope that the DesignLab has found, inNTU, a partner for global issues with international partners and a globalimpact.”

The international advisory committee was unanimous in approving the nomination of Evers for the position of director at the recently established institute of NTU. When she was about to start, she aimed to link her personal ambitions to those of DesignLab.“A unique opportunity to use science for the benefit of humanity”, she said. And that’swhen Vanessa decided to start a new life in Singapore, together with her family.
