Call for Participation CBS/UT Data Camp 2016

We are searching for PhDs and PostDocs to join the data camp 2016.

The data camp is a joint event organized by the Central Bureau for Statistics of the Netherlands (CBS), the University of Twente (UT) and the Netherlands School for Information and Knowledge Systems (SIKS). During the camp, a set of analysts and researchers from the above organizations will answer research questions about statistics using big data technologies. On Tuesday, the participants will be presented with overview presentations about the research questions and technologies. The data camp participants will work in small, mixed teams in an informal setting. Experienced data scientists will support the teams by short mini-workshops and hands-on support. The hope is that the intense contact with the research question in an informal and spontaneous environment will produce valuable and innovative answers to the posed questions.

Benefit

Participants will make hands-on with big data processing technology and gain experience with working in inter disciplinary teams.

Research questions/Data: if compatible with the goals of the CBS, there is the chance that participants can work on questions related to their own field. Also the provision of data sets would be appreciated.

Requirements

The camp has only minimal technical requirements as many participants will start from ground up.

Commitment

We expect participants to invest most of their time into the data camp (absence for urgent meetings is of course ok). It would also be nice if participants would sometimes join the evening program.
