Modeling of Complex 3D Heat Exchanger Geometries and Systematic Design Optimization

PROJECT INFORMATION

Full title:

Modeling of Complex 3D Heat Exchanger Geometries and Systematic Design Optimization

Acronym

3D Heat Exchanger

Funding/Programme

Bosch Thermotechnology

Duration

2014-2018

Partners

Bosch Thermotechnology

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The research focuses on the investigation of multi-objective shape optimization in complex 3D geometries and implementation of the adjoint method in realistic heat exchangers such as finned and pinned heat exchangers. Furthermore, a systematic optimization tool will be developed and evaluated, so that not only the emission characteristics but also other performance factors such as thermal efficiency and pressure drop are optimized with varying key design parameters. Sensitivity analysis of the design will be performed to improve the understanding of the impact of the design tolerances on the system performance.
