Associate Professor Bas Borsje from the ET department of Civil Engineering (Marine and Fluvial Systems) has won the Central Education Award 2026, earning the title of UT Teacher of the Year. The Faculty of Engineering Technology is proud of this recognition for Bas.
The award was presented on 11 June during the final of the Central Education Award, which marked the closing event of the Week of Education. The three finalists - Bas Borsje, Mohammadreza Farrokhnia (BMS) and Pim van ’t Hof (EEMCS) - each delivered a mini lecture. Following their presentations, the jury and audience selected the winner.
According to the jury, Borsje excels at inspiring students and translating complex challenges into practical and engaging learning experiences. Connecting education to real-world societal challenges is also at the heart of his teaching philosophy.
With the Central Education Award, UT annually recognises lecturers who make a lasting impact on students and colleagues through their teaching. As the winner, Borsje receives a certificate and a trophy.
