Bas Borsje appointed as a new board member of the Waddenacademie

Bas Borsje (born in Ede in 1983) began his academic career in 2006. In 2012, he obtained his PhD from the University of Twente under the supervision of Professor Suzanne Hulscher and Professor Peter Herman (NIOZ and Radboud University). His doctoral thesis, "Biogeomorphology of coastal seas: How benthic organisms, hydrodynamics and sediment dynamics shape tidal sand waves", broke new ground in showing how ecological and physical processes together shape the seabed of our coastal seas.

Since 2020, Borsje has been an associate professor at the University of Twente, in the Department of Civil Engineering and Management. In his research, he explores how we can prepare our environment for a changing climate. He combines insights from hydraulic engineering, geosciences, ecology and public administration, with the aim of contributing to a future-proof, nature-based design of coastal areas.

From 2016 to 2020, Borsje was a member of the Young Waddenacademie , where he worked to strengthen interdisciplinary research in the Wadden Sea region and to engage young people with the region by organising conferences such as "Ditching Dikes", "Future of Farming" and "Diving into Data".

The Waddenacademie  welcomes the appointment of Bas Borsje.
