On April 16, the fifth 4TU 14UAS Research Day on Digitalisation in Construction was held at the University of Twente. The Research Day is a joint initiative of Delft University of Technology, Eindhoven University, the University of Twente, and 14 universities of applied sciences (hbo). The event has been made possible because of 4TU Center of Excellence for the Built Environment, domain Acceleration Team Digitalization, chaired by UT-colleague Léon olde Scholtenhuis.
Successful discussions at 4TU Research Day
The day started with a keynote from Erwin Folmer about collecting and making geodata available via Kadaster Knowledge Graphs and implementation of AI. In the afternoon, a second keynote was delivered by Bart Brink was about the activities of the national government and the opportunities they present for scientists in the field of digitalisation of the built environment.
Following the keynotes, graduate students, doctoral candidates, lecturers, and researchers discussed themes such as information modelling, reality capture, simulation, interactive decision-making platforms, immersive and extended reality, predictive modelling, digital twins, and implementation of digital technologies in parallel sessions.
Using data to solve major challenges
Within the 4TU DAT Digitalization, researchers work on solving challenges such as energy transition, renovation projects and development of smart cities through the use of data. In the team, four digitalisation objectives have been drawn up in the strategic program: artificial intelligence, Robotics and automation, Mixed reality, and digital twins.
