This week, a team of Twente visited Lappeenranta University of Technology (LUT) in Finland for the kick-off the Erasmus+ project to develop future standards for e-learning platforms. The project, CEPHEI (Cooperative E-learning Platform for Higher Education in Industrial Innovation), aims to develop a cooperative e-learning platform for industrial innovation. The project is a capacity building Erasmus+ project of nearly 1 million euros funded by the European Union. Twente is selected for their expertise in both teaching and learning platforms for higher education.
With CEPHEI Twente wants to increase the digitalization, internationalization and visibility of our university and MSc programmes in particular. Blended approaches will be developed and shared with programme and partners countries.
Team from Twente
The team from Twente is a very diverse team with members from different faculties and institutes. Wessel Wits from the department of Design, Production and Management (ET) is team leader. From his group also Marcus Pereira Pessoa and Alberto Martinetti are involved. They form the teacher team and will mostly give input related to the teaching and course contents. From TELT, Ard Kosters and Chris Rouwenhorst are involved and will share Twente’s expertise in technology-enhanced learning and teaching. Jan van der Veen, Chairman of 4TU.Centre for Engineering Education, and Prof. Ton de Jong, Chair of Instructional Technology (BMS) complement the team and bring academic experience in collaborative learning through technology to the team.
Aim of CEPHEI
The aim of CEPHEI, a 3-year funded project, is to develop 60 ECTS worth of course contents. The Erasmus+ programme is highly competitive, acceptance rate is only 17%; hence, an excellent consortium is a must. In this respect, Twente’s leading role in educational thinking, such as TEM, etc., was appreciated. What makes the project unique is that not only the course contents comes from the curricula, but also industry needs, such as re-training, are taken into account. CEPHEI courses are related to industrial innovation and Twente will develop blended courses from their engineering technology curricula. Also, connections to Dutch industry will be set up and professional learning needs will be solicited.
Partners
The project consists of programme countries and partner counties. Programme countries have a leading role in developing the e-learning platform thereby supporting the partner countries to set-up e-learning courses. Twente together with LUT, KTH (Sweden) and MEF (Turkey) form the programme universities and will share their knowledge and expertise with respect to e-learning. The partner universities are located in Russia (St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, Gubkin Russian State University and the TUSUR University, Tomsk) and China (Tianjin University and Hebei University). A state of the art e-learning set-up will be designed for the partner universities. Within the project Twente has the lead in developing the e-learning platform and will therefore frequently visit the other universities from the consortium.
