Description

The overall aim of the project is to develop an efficient methodology to analyze inevitable scatter that builds up during successive processing steps in a multistage production process. Metal forming processes, such as cutting, deep drawing, bending, heat treatment and finishing, can be applied successively to make a certain product. However, process variation caused by for example product-to-product material scatter, temperature changes or variation in the amount of applied lubricant, can cause the product to be beyond the specified tolerances. One can reduce this amount of scrap by optimizing the robustness of a process using numerical models. Only by reducing the number of parameters,  the numerical model and the minimum description of the essential variation a global optimum can be found within reasonable computational time.
