Textile cords are widely used as reinforcing elements in tires. They ensure that the tire keeps its shape, as the cord is much stiffer than the rubber itself. To transfer load from the rubber to the cord, the bondage between them is very important. The aim of this project is, to use an ionized gas – which is a chemically active media; the so-called plasma treatment technique – to provide adhesion between the reinforcing fibers and rubber. The project is in cooperation with an industrial partner and combines typical engineering work with chemical aspects, a very unique and interesting combination!
