Internship Nano materials

Our profile
Apollo Tyres Global R&D BV, like Apollo Vredestein BV, is situated in Enschede (NL) and is a part of Apollo Tyres Ltd. We are responsible for the development and testing of all car and van tyres for all the brands held by the company (including Apollo, Vredestein and Dunlop). These activities are performed for all markets worldwide by some 100 employees.

The challenge
The focus of this assignment is to determine how nano-materials influence compound properties and what processing parameters are necessary to best to realize the benefits of the materials by designing and executing a test plan. This will entail mixing and testing compounds in the laboratory. The student is expected to study the current literature on the subject and determine what experimental program and test methodologies would be most appropriate.

The understanding of the relationship of ingredient properties to rubber compound performance is key in developing the next generation of passenger car tires. In addition, new nano-materials are being developed that promise great improvements in tire performance. These nano-materials can behave differently than conventional compound ingredients and present unique challenges in their processing to realize the full potential of the materials. The goal of this assignment is to not only investigate the processing parameters necessary for nano-materials, but also to understand the fundamental basis of how nano-materials improve compound properties.
