Physical model based predictive maintenance for rail-infrastructureIn order to increase the availability and optimize the maintenance costs for rail-infrastructure elements it is strongly recommended to shift from reactive to predictive maintenance. A physics based model is beneficial for the prognosis in terms of determining the maintenance time interval. The model can be developed by understanding the underlying physical failure mechanisms of the critical components. The challenge is to couple the relevant physical models to the monitoring system.
