INTRODUCTION
Current design methodologies used in technology-based development initiatives have various failings which include not taking into full consideration the context in which they are applied, maintaining power differences that exist among various stakeholders, lack of substantial community participation (tokenism). These failings lead to the design of solutions that are inappropriate and fail to make a lasting social change. This research looks at how social justice can be made an integral part of technology-based work when done in the context of humanitarian and development projects.
