Today, cities and countries have to cope with increasing mobility, high population density and a growing awareness of environmental threats. Sustainable area development is one of the key future challenges for planners, policy-makers and engineers. The CME ground develops scenario assessment tools, participatory strategic planning instruments and novel and interactive cost benefit analyses to support strategic decision making.
Studies focus on a variety of are projects: the transformation of cultural heritage, the integration of healthcare in area development, and multifunctional coastal defense projects. Research is aimed at generating a better understanding of public-[private partnerships and other collaborative arrangements needed to develop sustainable areas. Besides, new concepts for knowledge co-production are studied to improve the use of research for practice.
