The Adoption of Innovations in the Building Industry
In December 2012 the Department of Construction Management and Engineering hosted and organized together with Pioneering a very well attended conference on the adoption of innovations in the building industry. John van Oorschot, Maarten van den Berg and Pieter Klok presented their research while a panel representing principals of housing associations in the Netherlands reflected on the presented research findings. The conference was chaired by professor Joop Halman. Particularly the factors that influence the (non-)adoption of new developed building concepts, examples of complex systemic innovations, in projects of housing associations, were discussed.
During the second part of the conference several innovative systems that construction companies in the Twente region are developing were presented and discussed. The same principals of housing associations debated about their market potential of these new systems and the chance that these systems will also be adopted by housing associations.
