KEY QUALIFICATIONS
Dr. Jan S. Ribberink is Associate Professor in the Water Engineering and Management Department of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Twente. He is specialized in river and coastal hydraulics, sediment dynamics and morphology and has more than 25 years experience as a researcher, lecturer and specialist consultant. His research is focussed on sediment dynamics in rivers and coastal seas, with topics as non-uniform sediments, wave-induced sediment transport, oscillatory sheet flow, large-scale river and sea bed erosion/sedimentation. Experimental research in laboratory facilities and mathematical modelling of sediment dynamics are key elements in his research. He coordinated a number of Dutch and European research programmes on coastal morphodynamics and was involved in several consultancy projects, such as coastal defense studies, studies on offshore sand mining and large-scale river morphology. He is supervising Ph. D. and M.Sc. research studies, teaches the course ‘Fluid Mechanics’ in the Batchelor programme Civil Engineering, and the courses ‘River Dynamics’ and ‘Marine Dynamics’ in the Master programme Civil Engineering and Management.
