Luc Wismans appointed as Full Professor Transport Data Science

The Transport Studies Group of the Department of Civil Engineering and Management (CEM) of the University of Twente is happy to welcome Dr. Ir. Luc Wismans as Full Professor Transport Data Science. As a professor in Transport Data Science, Luc will explore how data, models, AI, and other digital technologies can help transport planners to make make better decisions. Transport Data Science is relevant to virtually the entire mobility sector. Also, mobility issues grow more complex and are increasingly intertwined with areas such as housing, land use, energy, safety, health, and quality of life, making it more difficult to forecast future mobility patterns. Luc brings together academic knowledge and years of practical experience with mobility issues. It is precisely this combination that can help to develop academic knowledge, insights and tools that are also applicable to the sector and society. With this chair position, Luc will also contribute to educating the next generations of civil engineers. Luc’s appointment (1 day per week) is made possible by Goudappel and has started on August 1, 2026.
