24 UT staff members take on the Batavierenrace with exoskeletons

To draw attention to their work and to the changing world of exoskeletons, the University of Twente is organising a special initiative. On May 8 and 9, 2026, 24 staff members will take part in various stages of the Batavierenrace relay run, partly equipped with exoskeletons.

With this initiative, the research group aims to highlight the rapid development of wearable robotics and their potential role in the future of human movement. The researchers will use three different types of exoskeletons, ranging from research prototypes to commercial systems that are already available on the market. On Friday, May 8 and Saturday, May 9, 2026, the Batavierenrace will host the 54th edition of the world’s largest relay race. The starting signal will sound in Nijmegen, after which hundreds of teams will run in relay format towards Enschede. On Saturday, they will reach the finish line and celebrate with a large party on the University of Twente campus in Enschede.
