ET actively contributes to 'Regionale WO-dag' at University of Twente

Last Thursday, the Regional University Education Day (WO-dag) took place on the campus of the University of Twente. Over more than 1000 pre-university students (vwo) had the opportunity to explore various programmes.

The programme consisted of five rounds. The first two rounds where focused on the University of Twente. Students could choose presentations about different themes: natural sciences, engineering, data & ai, health, and chiptechnology. The second round was a mini-lecture, given by a UT-lecturers. Getting Pre‑University Students Excited About Engineering

Also, from the Faculty of Engineering Technology, we made an active contribution. Our colleague Gabriëlle Tuijthof gave a mini lecture on “helping doctors with technology.” In an accessible way, pre-university students (vwo) were introduced to how engineers collaborate with doctors, and how that collaboration can lead to meaningful solutions for patients.

In the Netherlands, there is an urgent shortage of well-trained technical professionals. From the ET faculty, I find it important to contribute—modestly—by providing a realistic picture of what being an engineer truly entails. I hope the pupils see that you can make a real societal impact with technical knowledge, and that the subjects they are learning now in secondary school, such as mathematics and physics, really do prepare them for the steps ahead.
