Iwan Setiawan received his graduate and undergraduate degrees from the Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) in Indonesia, completing both of them in 2006. After working in the industry for around one year in 2007, he decided to switch his career to research, and started working at the Indonesian Institute of Science (LIPI). He had positions in several research groups at LIPI, including Automation, Computation, and System and Control.
In May 2015 he joined the Telecommunication Engineering group at the University of Twente as a PhD student.
